Ouest France, Marie Tiburce, 1 July 2016
Posted by: Bitossi

McEwen (1) commentary on commentary

Ride, Ride, 8 August 2014
Posted by: Bitossi

As a sprinter Robbie McEwen was one of the best of his generation. He is the winner of the green jersey at the Tour de France in 2002, 2004 and 2006. He was a rider with determination, speed, agility and a good dose of showmanship. He’s been retired for a couple of seasons now but remains in touch with the sport he loves. Still riding regularly, McEwen has also done his fair share of commentary and when we recently caught up for a post-Tour analysis of the sprinters and how they fared in 2014, we covered a range of topics.

McEwen (2) on the sprinters of Le Tour 101…

This is the second instalment of an interview with Robbie McEwen in which he discusses the strengths and weaknesses of a selection of sprinters in the 101st Tour de France. As is often the case with McEwen interviews, the dialogue is most verbatim and so we offer both the transcript of his exchange with Rob Arnold as well as a SoundCloud file… (this part of the conversation is from around the five-minute mark of the complete 30 minute interview).

Robbie McEwen : « Dans 15 jours, je serai retraité ... »

Cyclisme Actu, Alexandre Mignot, 7 May 2012
Posted by: Seb66

‘I love winning, hate losing’

Change is just what Robbie McEwen needed. His move to Katusha has put the fire back into the veteran Australian sprinter. Not that it’s ever gone away, but McEwen didn’t have his best season in 2008, coming off just five wins and getting blanked in the grand tours.

Nothing but quality

cyclingnews.com, Brecht Decaluwé, 6 April 2008

Some might start minimising the abilities of Australian sprinter Robbie McEwen as the 35 year-old is still without a victory in 2008, after four months of competition. It is odd, and, on the eve of the Spring Classics, McEwen talks about his season so far and his goals for 2008.

"I like it when its a little more disorganised."

Robbie McEwen will have a hard time at this years Tour de France. As the Silence - Lotto team wants to win the overall with Cadel Evans, McEwen will have to battle alone at the stage sprints. But McEwen is a rider who never gives up....

Mighty McEwen aiming for March

cyclingnews.com, Greg Johnson, 22 January 2008

Mighty McEwen's magic sprint hasn't headlined at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic or the Australian nationals in 2008, as it has in previous years. Instead the Queenslander is delaying his peak fitness as he did in 2007, in the hope of hitting his targets in March.

Another Giro, another stage win

cyclingnews.com, Shane Stokes, 14 May 2007

Robbie McEwen was back on top today to notch his 153rd career victory, bringing his Tour of Italy stage win tally up to a dozen. The Australian pocket rocket bolted past a wilting Alessandro Petacchi after a hot and challenging 205km second stage along the west coast of Sardinia.

A reflection of human nature

A prologue is not usually Robbie McEwen's thing, but as usual, the Australian speedster is focusing on tomorrow's second stage, where he can use his talents. But it's been difficult to get into the swing of things with the drama leading up to the race.

Where he wants to be

Surprised maybe, but when one takes a good look at Robbie McEwen's 2005 season, the 33 year-old was a deserving winner of the Sir Hubert Opperman medal as 2005 Australian Cyclist of the Year
