After two seasons strongly conditioned by the pandemic which prevented us from direct contact with cyclists and professionals in conjunction with the spring classics, on the eve of Liège-Bastogne-Liège we had the opportunity to deliver the Cyclissime Trophy – sponsored by Mühle Glashütte – to the winner of the 2019 edition Jakob Fuglsang. We exchanged a few words with him about the season that awaits him and the changes that cycling has witnessed.

Laat de druk van het rijden van een goed klassement vallen. De 35-jarige Deen gaat in 2021 voor succes in eendagskoersen. Eerst in de Ardennen en daarna op de Olympische Spelen. De Tour de France rijdt hij voor ritzeges, waarbij hij een voorbeeld neemt aan de tactiek die Team Sunweb hanteerde de afgelopen Tour. Fuglsang wil in 2021 vrij koersen. Dat vertelt hij in een online persconferentie tegen WielerFlits.

Jakob Fuglsang si conferma corridore e uomo di grande disponibilità. Reduce dalla sua miglior stagione, lo scorso anno si è messo con dedizione al servizio di Vincenzo Nibali, risultandone uno degli uomini fondamentali per il trionfo al Tour de France e quest'anno potrebbe ancora dover sottostare agli ordini di scuderia. I calendari in casa Astana saranno decisi a breve, durante il ritiro di Calpe, ma intanto il danese è sereno, pronto a lavorare nuovamente per un capitano, intenzionato a dare il massimo, facendosi trovare pronto quando e dove dovesse avere l'occasione di dire la propria anche in prima persona. Scalatore capace di ottimi risultati a cronometro, quest'anno ha dimostrato una sorprendente abilità sul pavé, che vorrebbe prima o poi testare nelle grandi corse, magari anche quest'anno.

Avant la seizième étape du Tour de France 2013, ce mardi, Jakob Fuglsang pointait encore au septième rang du général. Malheureusement pour lui, le Col de Manse, dernière difficulté du jour, lui a été fatal. Relégué à une minute du groupe maillot jaune, le Danois a vu l'Espagnol Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha) lui repasser devant au classement. Désormais, le coureur d'Astana est huitième, à plus de sept minutes de Christopher Froome (Team Sky), mais à onze secondes seulement de la septième place qu'il vient de céder. Une position qu'il détenait encore lors la journée de repos, lundi, journée durant laquelle il a accueilli Cyclism'Actu à l'hôtel de l'équipe kazakhe. A cette occasion, l'ancien grand espoir du cyclisme danois s'est exprimé sur ses deux premières semaines de Tour de France, mais également sur la terrible dernière semaine qui se profile. Aspirant au top 10, l'ancien protégé de Bjarne Riis est jusque là "dans les clous", et il espére bien le rester. C'est aussi en toute sérénité que Fuglsang a pu passer en revue des sujets aussi divers que la Sky, sa manière de courir, son arrivée chez Astana et son futur sur les Grands Tours. Des épreuves qui jusque là, ne lui avaient jamais vraiment réussi.

Jakob Fuglsang nam een jaar geleden als het grootste talent van Denemarken afscheid van Bjarne Riis en volgde de gebroeders Schleck naar Leopard. In 2012 maakt hij nog steeds uit van de selectie van RadioShack-Nissan-Trek, maar wellicht niet voor lang meer. De ambitieuze Deen wil meer. Het voorbije seizoen had hij in de Tour nog een dienende rol, maar in 2012 wil hij het anders gaan doen.

The leader's jersey of the Vuelta a España was yellow and called maillot amarillo when Lars Michaelson wore it for four days in 1997. Riding for TVM, he won the first stage of the Vuelta that started in Lisbon and finished on the car racing circuit of Estoril in Portugal.

Jakob Fuglsang has got the U23 World Championship's title in Fort William. Starting from 2008, he will compete in the Elite category. We are sure he could grow and improve his performances, getting great results, as it happened during the World Cup and the 2007 Roc d'Azur.
