Every team has one; a ‘press guy’ or ‘gal’ in some cases, all do a great job sending out press releases, setting up interviews and arranging media days and presentations. That’s not all they do and most are like a swan, all cool and graceful above the water line, but working like crazy beneath the surface. Chris Baldwin was one of the most helpful, but with his mastery of the Russian language there was always an air of mystery. Now we know a bit more about the man who used to be with the Astana team.

After a self-professed frustrating year, the 2-Time USPRO Time Trial Champion, in 2003 and 2005, Chris Baldwin (Toyota-United) is skipping the TT this year to focus on the road race in the upcoming US Professional Championships in Greenville.

Over the span of what seems like some very short years Chris Baldwin has become a force to be reckoned with in the cycling community. While it may sometimes seem like it all came overnight Chris is the first to point out that nothing happens overnight in cycling.

Chris Baldwin will compete against a field of more than fifty riders as they race against the clock for the right to wear the Stars and Stripes jersey in 2007. The rider from Richland has won the title two times in the past, so he is no stranger to the thrill of victory when it comes to dominating the discipline of the Time Trial.

Chris Baldwin, the current U.S. time trial champion, first won this title back in 2003. This year changes to the UPSRO road championships will make his defence more difficult, as American ProTour riders such as Tour de France prologue winner David Zabriskie and Levi Leipheimer will be in Greenville to challenge for the stars and stripes.

He is one of the most feared time trialists in professional cycling. But Chris Baldwin is also a classy GC rider who has tasted victory in more than 17 races, including the recent Tour of the Gila.
