« J’ai dû me mettre au niveau »

Cyclism'Actu, Quentin Ballue, 11 Urtarrila 2019

Former Junior and Under 23 World Champion, Matej Mohoric has decided to leave Cannondale-Garmin after his second pro season and join Italian outfit Lampre-Merida on a two-year contract. Just 21-years-old, the Slovenian remains one of the most promising young riders of the peloton, and although he didn’t manage to add a win to his name since joining the World Tour ranks, the general consensus is that a breakthrough result will come very soon.

I want to do a Grand Tour in 2015

At just 19, Matej Mohoric was the youngest rider to race in the World Tour this season. The talented Slovenian was a member of the Cannondale Team, where he ended up after winning the Junior and U23 World Title in the previous two seasons. The beginning of 2014 found him at the start of the Tour Down Under, which was followed, a couple months later, by the Ardennes Classics that Matej loves so much and where he has the potential to shine in the future

In 2012 he won the World Championship road race for juniors, in 2013 he won the World Championship road race for riders U23. In 2014 he will be the youngest rider in the World Tour, his name is of course Matej Mohoric. He will be riding for Cannondale Pro Cycling Team in 2014 and is not stressed at all about his debute in the professional ranks. Read what he had to say below.

A chat with Matej Mohoric, the U23 world champion.

Last September, after a memorable descent, Matej Mohoric won the U23 world title, one year after he won the rainbow jersey in the Junior race. One of the most gifted young riders out there, the 19 year old Slovenian signed with Cannondale for the next seasons and will make his World Tour debut in a couple of days, at the Tour Down Under. After going to Oz, he will race in Europe, where he will get for the first time in his career the taste of the Ardennes Classics that suit him so well. This week, before traveling to Australia, I caught up with Matej and he talked about the first months with Cannondale and his plans for this season.

I dream of winning the Giro.

In 2012, at the World Championships, Matej Mohoric won the gold medal in the Junior Road Race, a perfect ending for a season that was already impressive for the young Slovenian, just 17 years old at that time (he was second in the individual time trial at the Worlds and had seven victories in UCI events). The win from Valkenburg caught the attention of numerous big teams, and a year later, Matej Mohoric has signed with a World Tour one. Which team is it, what are his objectives for the future, and many more, in the following interview I’ve done with Matej at the beginning of this week
