Julich joined Oleg Tinkov’s team earlier this month as Head Coach, and spent last week climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with his new colleagues. He knows the spine of the management at the team having ridden for Bjarne Riis for several years before then stepping up to coach the team after his retirement from racing in 2008.

Bobby Julich has been undoubtedly one of the star performers of 2005, riding with impressive form from the start of the season right up until the end, taking victories at Paris-Nice, the Eneco Tour of Bénélux, and Critérium International. The 34 year old American has no hesitation in describing 2005 as his best year yet, and says that it would be a perfect finale to the season if he was able to take home a rainbow jersey. After a strong Tour de France and an even stronger performance at the Tour of Benelux, Bobby Julich is definitely riding a wave through to the shore. Cyclingnews' Shane Stokes caught up with the American in recent days, talking to him as he completed his preparations for the Deutschland Tour. He is currently fourth overall in the ProTour rankings and headed to Germany aiming for another strong ride.

The Daily Peloton caught up with CSC's resurgent American bike racing hero in downtown Philadelphia today at the Wachovia Cycling Series press conference. Julich's 2004 season has been his best in the five years since he stood on the podium in the Tour de France in 1998. Since then, he's ridden for Cofidis and done yeoman's work for Jan Ullrich on the Telekom team, but this season, it looks like he may have some opportunities to ride for himself, and one of those opportunities comes this Sunday at the Wachovia US Pro Championships.
