A tough, driven, gritty competitor, Sean Kelly is one of the most successful riders in the history of professional cycling. He topped the sport’s world ranking continuously from 1984 to 1989, winning Classics and stage races, as well as a Grand Tour. His career achievements include successes in Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Tour of Lombardy, seven editions of Paris-Nice, four green jerseys and much more.

Pour commenter le direct de Paris Nice sur Eurosport International cette année, on retrouve rien de moins que le « King » Kelly au micro. Qui connait mieux cette épreuve que l’Irlandais lui même? Sean Kelly ce monument du cyclisme mondial et qui détient un palmarès à en faire pâlir plus d’un.

Son nom est rentré dans la légende. SEAN KELLY, surnommé « le King » par son peuple, et respecté par toute une planète entière. Même notre Michel Sardou lui rend hommage dans son mythique Lac du Connemara, lui le double vainqueur de Paris Roubaix (84 et 86), sept fois vainqueur de Paris Nice et son « fecking » de Col d’Eze dont il est invaincu à ce jour. Vainqueur de la Vuelta 88 également, dont il a remporté seize étapes durant sa carrière.

t's 1992, and Moreno Argentin is in his pomp. The Italian came to Milan-Sanremo as the favourite, and he's riding like it, spearheading the leading group towards the Poggio and the denouement of La Classicissima. Almost 300 kilometres ridden and still flying, carving through the tight bends of Liguria's coastal roads.

Former world number one Sean Kelly has spoken at length about the An Post Sean Kelly team he is involved in running, saying that he wants the team to develop into a Pro Continental squad if the circumstances are right. The squad already gets invitations to some big races such as the Tour of Belgium, the Tour of Britain and the Belgian semi-Classics, thanks to the team’s aggressive riding and also because of Kelly’s association with it.

The clock is ticking, 2012 is approaching and what could be the best season yet for the An Post Grant Thornton M. Donnelly Sean Kelly team is now just weeks away. The riders from the Irish-sponsored, Belgium-based squad are currently at a training camp in Calpe, and will remain there working hard until Tuesday. Many of those who raced with the team in 2011 are back once again, including two strong riders who had expected to leave. An Post Rás winner Gediminas Bagdonas took several victories in 2011, including a stage in the Tour of Britain, and earned a contract with the top-ranked Geox-TMC team, but the Vuelta a España-winning squad disintegrated after its main sponsor Geox walked away.
