Brajkoviè signed a two-year deal with UnitedHealthcare in October, and with the agreement in place, the team suddenly found itself with a veteran GC rider for the stage races on its calendar, and Brajkoviè suddenly found himself back in a leadership role. It didn’t take long for him to get comfortable with his new surroundings.

The biggest victory of Janez Brajkovic's career came at the 2010 Critérium du Dauphiné, where he won the overall ahead of Alberto Contador, but since then he has run up against bad luck and injuries and has not been able to capitalize on that promise. After spending three unsatisfying seasons on a fractured Astana squad, the Slovenian signed for 2015 with UnitedHealthcare. After only a few days with the American team in Asheville, North Carolina he already feels at home and more optimistic about the future.

BURGOS, Spain (VN) — It’s the time of the year when nerves start ratcheting up. By late August, there’s a growing anxiety within the peloton, at least for anyone without a secured contract for the upcoming season. Most deals are knotted up before the end of the Tour de France. One of those entering the uncertainty bubble is 30-year-old Janez Brajkovic (Astana). The skinny Slovenian told VeloNews he still does not have a contract for next season. “I have nothing,” he said. “Honestly, I have nothing so far, so we’ll see. I don’t know. It’s hard.”

From using power meters or feeling in training to the differences between the Bruyneel Astana and the Vino Astana and even a few words about his ex-boss Lance Armstrong.

Jani Brajkovic rides for Krka-Nova Mesto, and is a rising star of Slovenian and Eastern European cycling, having taken 3rd in the 2003 GP Krka (1.3) as well as 5th overall at the 2004 Tour of Slovenia in dire weather conditions. He also won the 2004 Slovenian U23 ITT Championship - a few hours ago! - with a time that would have placed him third in the elite category, won by Dean Podgornik.
