The stars aligned there for a few years

Velo News, Andrew Hood, 4 February 2016

Tyler Farrar is ready to slot into a helper’s role in the lead-out of the man who was once his most bitter rival, Mark Cavendish. Five years ago, the pair battled in the sprints, but Farrar is a realist and optimist at heart, and he’s excited to be part of the Cavendish Express for 2016.

Farrar invigorated by MTN-Qhubeka move

CyclingNews, Sadhbh O'Shea, 29 November 2014
Posted by: Bitossi

Invigoration is a prevalent theme when Tyler Farrar talks to Cyclingnews about his switch to the MTN-Qhubeka team. From spending just a little bit of time with Farrar there is little doubt that even before the season has begun the move has had a big impact on him. There were other options for the American but he couldn’t resist the draw of the team. He is as eager as a neo-pro as he awaits his first race in the team colours and already looks at home in his new environment.

Garmin-Sharp's Tyler Farrar heads to Italy this week for his first big stage race of the season: Tirreno-Adriatico. There, the American will face his showdown of the season with the likes of Peter Sagan, Mark Cavendish, and Andre Greipel all at once. James Startt, Bicycling’s man in Europe, had a chance to sit down with Farrar recently to talk about his challenging 2012 season, in which he faced disappointment in the one-day Classics and dealt with injuries and bad luck. He’s looking forward to 2013 with a renewed focus and a positive attitude.

Farrar Q&A: On head injuries, winning again and Armstrong

ADELAIDE, Australia (VN) — Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp) wants to forget 2012 and return to the sweet spot he enjoyed during a three-year run that established him as one of the most consistent sprinters in the bunch. The 28-year-old endured a frustrating 2012 season marked by narrow misses, crashes and a season-ending concussion with only two ticks in the win column.

The American rider talks about motivation, learning Flemish, Wouter Weylandt, comparisons to Mark Cavendish, and, yes, winning bicycle races. In many ways Tyler Farrar is the most intriguing American rider racing in the European pro peloton. The 27-year-old is the country's top sprinter, with stage victories in the Tours of France, Italy, and Spain, and he's one of the few riders to have beaten world champion Mark Cavendish, the greatest sprinter of this era.

Tyler Farrar is preparing for his ninth professional season and he’s certainly hoping the 2012 season will not be the emotional roller coaster that he endured last year. The Garmin sprinter enjoyed some of his best results ever, capped by a breakthrough stage win at the Tour de France, but suffered a horrible crash at the Vuelta a España that derailed his hopes for a shot at the rainbow jersey in Copenhagen.

Originally I came to Belgium with the US National team, they have a house in Izegem not far from Gent where I live now. So they put us up in this house and we’d travel to all the races, just because Belgium is pretty centrally located so it makes the most sense running a program like that on a small budget.
