The next in our ‘Why I Cycle‘ Series is Olympic track medalist Steven Burke who won gold both at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Now that the hysteria of the games has calmed a little we found a few moments to find out a little bit more about his love of cycling…

He’s British, he’s one of the fastest men in the world over four kilometers and an Olympic and World Champion on the track in 2012 and no it’s not Bradley Wiggins. It’s Steven Burke, a stalwart of the British Team Pursuit squad and a man with a fearsome turn of speed. We recently caught up with Steven to chat about what the future holds for the fast man from Lancashire.

Geraint Thomas's loss in Beijing was certainly the gain of youngster Steven Burke, who picked up a bronze medal in the individual pursuit and, with it, cast aside any lingering disappointments he may have had from this year's World Track Championships.

Yet another young talent brought through the GB Olympic Academy Programme, Steven Burke's specialisation is the team pursuit. Steven took his first medal at the 2005 European Junior Championships, again in the team pursuit, although is as of yet unproven in the top flight.
