After nearly two decades of trying, Sam Bennett became an overnight success when he sprinted to victory at the end of the final stage of the Tour de France on the Champs Elysées just over a month ago.

I hope that doesn’t sound too cocky

The Irish sprinter may have made history in the Tour, but he’s still not taking life too seriously

For sure I have taken a step up

Somewhat aptly for one of cycling’s fastest riders, Sam Bennett has a real connection to Formula One. A long-time fan of fast cars and of motorsport, he lives in Monaco, one of the most iconic locations of F1 racing. His apartment is two minutes’ walk from the circuit there, approximately 200 metres from the famed Casino section.

Sam Bennett has been his team’s main sprinter for three seasons but that will change in 2017. The Bora-hasgrohe team has stepped up a gear with a move to WorldTour and, more significantly, the signing of key riders including world road race champion Peter Sagan.

Hoping, not expecting: Sam Bennett on a frustrating season and his Qatar worlds chances

He’s taken two wins in the buildup to the Qatar world championships and is considered by some to be a possible dark horse for a medal. Irish sprinter Sam Bennett isn’t feeling any stress, though: a difficult season has been turned around and the pressure is off.

Would be fantastic to race the Tour de France.

In his debut season, the great Sean Kelly won four races. More than three decades later, his compatriot, Sam Bennett, who competed for Team An Post between 2011 and 2013, had a brilliant start as a neo-professional and scored all the wins of NetApp-Endura this season: Clasica de Almeria, Rund um Köln, and stage 5 of the Bayern Rundfahrt. His results made NetApp-Endura include him on the provisional list for the Tour de France, where the 23-year-old Irish rider could make his debut in a Grand Tour. If this will be the case or not, it remains to be seen in the coming weeks. No matter what happens, Sam Bennett is pleased with how things went so far in 2014 and is eager to get new wins and confirm his huge talent.

I’d love to ride the Tour de France this year with NetApp Endura.

Irish pro Sam Bennett has said that he would jump at the chance to ride the Tour de France in his first year as a pro rider, with a place potentially up for grabs after his NetApp Endura team was given a wildcard to the race today.

Sam Bennett is a sprinter/all rounder that joined Team NetApp-Endura for 2014. He earned this contract by some great results in the Tour of Britain where he won a stage and got two 2nd places. So far Sam has been held back by some injuries, but he is now fit and he could certainly surprise a lot of people with a great season! Read below what Sam had to say.

25 Riders to Watch in 2014 – Sam Bennett.

He’s 23 years old, Irish, can climb and sprint. He’s got people making the easy comparison to Sean Kelly, but it’s unfair to compare him to anyone just now, lets just say he’s the 1st Sam Bennett!

Turning pro with NetApp Endura a big motivation, and so too thoughts of the Giro d’Italia in Ireland.

Velonation, Shane Strokes, 16 October 2013

Confirmed yesterday as signing a two year pro contract with the NetApp Endura team, the promising young Irish rider Sam Bennett has said that he is motivated to hit good form next season, to learn from the squad and hopefully to be part of the Giro d’Italia when it begins in Ireland. NetApp Endura secured a wildcard invitation to the 2012 edition of the race and is pushing to do so again for 2014. Having an Irish rider on board can only be a plus for its chances, given that the Giro d’Italia will begin in Belfast and spend a total of three days on the island.

Je peux encore progresser.
