O'Grady, 41, who finished his career on the Australian Orica-GreenEDGE team, admits the time since he made his doping confession in late July 2013 has been turbulent. But he says he is now at peace with himself.

It was a chance meeting: two Aussies in a café/bar that was on the route of the seventh stage of the 2014 Tour de France from Epernay to Nancy: two blokes who began their Tour careers in the same year. Stuart O’Grady and I found ourselves following the race yet again: a publisher and a former cyclist in the same place at the same time by pure coincidence.

Pour vous permettre de patienter avant l’édition 2012 de Paris-Roubaix, Velochrono propose la lecture de plusieurs entretiens avec des anciens vainqueurs de l’Enfer du Nord. Il y a cinq ans, Stuart O’Grady devenait le premier Australien à s’imposer au vélodrome. Il y a 18 ans, il commençait sa carrière. « Je crois que j’ai un peu de bouteille, maintenant », rigole le coureur de GreenEDGE, équipe où il terminera sa carrière avec un large sourire.

Stuart O’Grady (Leopard-Trek) always talks from the heart, but nothing gets his heart racing more than Paris-Roubaix. The 37-year-old Aussie won the race in 2007 but last Sunday he didn’t make the time cut after a series of mishaps derailed his chances.

Don't discount Team CSC's Stuart O'Grady as a candidate for the win in Sunday's Paris-Rouabix. After a string of top-five finishes, O'Grady is intent on snagging his first victory since 2004, when he won a stage at the Tour de France, two at the Dauphiné Libéré and the HEW Cyclassics.

2006 proved you can take Stuart O'Grady away from the fight, but you can't take the fight out of Stuart O'Grady. As soon as he signed on the dotted line for Team CSC at the end of October last year, he knew he was sacrificing sprint stages and the green jersey at the Tour de France, at one point his sole cycling obsession.

This spring was to be a big one for Stuart O'Grady. At 32 years of age he has a strong blend of strength, experience and results, and his move to Team CSC last autumn was expected see him move to a new level as a Classics contender.
