Not too much was expected from the EOLO-Kometa team in the Giro d’Italia, but they had better results than many of the ProTour and WorldTour teams. One rider who was seen many times off the front in Italian Grand Tour was Mark Christian, Ed Hood had a word.

Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso’s EOLO-Kometa team is making a big step up for the 2021 season and has been signing experienced riders alongside their young up-and-coming riders. A rider 24 year old who has spent plenty of time working on the track at Team GB as a youngster is Mark Christian. The Raleigh rider for the past few seasons has spent the last few seasons concentrating on the road but after a great performance at the Commonwealth Games where he was going well in the points until DQ’d and was then 4th in the Scratch race after one of four to take a lap, team GB started to show a renewed interest.

A nice result we spotted recently was Raleigh’s Mark Christian taking a top ten on stage two of the tough Tour du Haut Var. We decided to have a word with yet another product of that sea air on the Isle of Man.

The 23 year old Isle of Man rider has been around a while now having ridden for GB and AN Post to name two teams but his performance last weekend finishing ninth on a tough stage of Haut Var showed he certainly has the ability to ride at the top level in the sport of pro cycling.
