Season 2014 is the first since 1999 that Victorian, Baden Cooke won’t be pinning on a number; after 14 seasons as a professional he’s called ‘time’ on what was a highly successful career to move into rider management.

Baden Cooke announced on Wednesday that he was calling an end to his cycling career. In a marketplace flooded with unemployed riders his parting from Orica-GreenEdge forced his hand as he now transitions towards a new career as a soon-to-be rider agent. Baden Cooke is making his ProTour debut in the Santos Tour Down Under with the Saxo Bank team and is more motivated than he has been in a long while. Cooke won the Green Jersey in the 2003 Tour de France but the years since then have been more marked by disappointments than by success.

Baden Cooke will be aiming for success on home soil in the Tour Down Under from January 18th. He's recently switched to the new Vacansoleil team after a deal with Rock Racing wasn't what it seemed. Cooke spoke about this change, his reaction to his 2008 season and his goals for the year ahead.

Australia's Baden Cooke has signed with Professional Continental squad Team Barloworld for 2008, having spent much of the 2007 season on the sideline due to legal complications between his ProTour team's naming rights sponsor Unibet.com and European event organisers.

All going to plan, Baden Cooke would be spending this July chasing a second green jersey in the Tour de France, trying to add to the maillot vert he won in 2003. Instead, he'll be at home in Monaco, lamenting the absence of the Unibet.com team from the race and getting back on the bike after a bad injury.

On ne sait pas quand une solution sera trouvée pour tous les problèmes rencontrés par l'équipe Unibet.com mais une chose est sûre : quand on interdit à ses coureurs de porter leur maillot habituel, ils se déchaînent !

De groene trui in de Ronde van Frankrijk van 2003 moest de doorbraak zijn voor Baden Cooke. Maar dat werd het helaas niet, het ging spijtig genoeg bergaf met de Australische sprinter. Hij praat met ons over zijn plannen voor volgend seizoen.

Baden Cooke s’est imposé depuis quelques années comme un des meilleurs sprinters du peloton.
