The last time George Bennett started the Amgen Tour of California, he won the race. With several high placings in the mountains and a strong time trial, the 29-year-old Kiwi took the first (and only) pro victory of his career. Two years later, Bennett is back. And he aims to win again.

On paper, it appears the 27-year-old simply opted to skip southern hemisphere summer racing to prepare for a campaign that has steadily progressed upward since February.
