As a follow-up to a recent column regarding professional athletes who bend the rules…break the rules…outright cheat (“Cheating in Professional Sports: What do our Children See?” Naples Herald, May 18, 2015), I was afforded the opportunity to speak with and interview former professional cyclist, Joe Papp, who was banned from his sport as a result of use and distribution of performance enhancing drugs.

On May 7, 2006, at the UCI Tour of Turkey, Joe Papp was found positive for metabolites of testosterone. Joe is now an outspoken, no holds barred opponent of the use of illegal performance enhancing methods and substances in sport.

COLORADO SPRINGS (May 25, 2007) The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced that Joseph Papp, an athlete in the sport of cycling, has received a two-year suspension after his sample provided May 7, 2006 at the Tour of Turkey was reported positive for metabolites of testosterone.
