Veteran Gordon McCauley, winner of the Caterpillar Underground Mining Tour of Tasmania, will represent New Zealand in the time trial at the world road championships in Geelong later this month before moving on to New Delhi in October for his fourth Commonwealth Games.

After a busy season with many wins, two major tours and having stopped his full time job in favour of focusing on cycling (his own and his coaching) Gordon McCauley isn't ready to offer up his champion's jersey to someone else without a good fight.

I was chatting with Gordie McCauley today about setting up an interview – we had tried before but it had not worked out due to his racing schedule, and in characteristic fashion he challenged me to interview him on the spot, saying I couldn’t do it without opening my race bible. Well, the contest was on, me flying by the seat of my pants and Gordie, well, just being Gordie.
