​Malgré certaines « frustrations », Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) réalise une bonne saison. Le champion d’Europe de l’effort en solitaire a l’occasion de boucler son année en beauté, dimanche 17 octobre, lors du Chrono des Nations. Le Suisse aura tout de même fort à faire avec Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-Quick Step).

Michael Albasini prendra dimanche le départ de son 16e et dernier Tour de Suisse. Une dernière boucle nationale qui ne se déroulera pas sous la forme d’une compétition. Stefan Küng, l’auteur de cette initiative, explique comment est née l’idée de cette « tour d’adieu ».

Dès son arrivée au sein de l’Équipe cycliste Groupama-FDJ, à l’hiver 2018-2019, Stefan Küng a immédiatement fait l’unanimité. De par sa personnalité, ses capacités athlétiques mais aussi son professionnalisme. Animé d’un vif et profond intérêt pour le matériel, l’ancien champion du monde de la poursuite individuelle a ainsi pu activement participer au développement de certains équipements ces derniers mois. Dans cette interview, il nous fait part de cette recherche de la perfection et de ce souci du détail qui le guident en permanence.

BMC won the final stage of the 2018 Tour de Suisse thanks to Stefan Küng. Wearer of the first leaders jersey after the American team had dominated the Team Time Trial on the first stage, the young Swiss was the only rider under 40 minutes in the closing Individual Time Trial in Bellinzona.

Elu cycliste suisse de l’année 2015, Stefan Küng a dû descendre de son vélo au début de la préparation hivernale. Le Thurgovien de 22 ans souffre d’une mononucléose qui va le forcer à décaler son début de saison.

Tipped for great things long before the start of the 2015 season – his first in the World Tour – Stefan Küng wasted no time in showing the huge talent he possesses, needing just a couple of race days to take the maiden victory of his career after a huge solo attack in the Volta Limburg Classic. That was the first of the three wins he got last season, the cherry on the top of the cake being the team time trial World Championships in Richmond, where BMC put on a convincing and impressive performance which netted them their first gold medal in the discipline.

As an U23 rider, the Swiss signed with BMC Development and made a name for himself during the past two seasons, winning the Giro del Belvedere, the Tour de Normandie, Flèche Ardennaise and both races (road and time trial) at the European Championships in Nyon.
