Smooth recovery leads to high ambitions

Unfortunately for Tony Cruz and the BMC Racing Team, a quick two race trip to Northern Europe saw him inopportunely break his collarbone in the GP Pino Cerami. Having had a couple of weeks to recover, Tony took a few minutes to discuss his goals for and feelings about the 2008 season.

Having come off of the Redlands Bicycle Classic in top form, Tony Cruz was very excited about the month of racing ahead of him. Unfortunately for Tony and the BMC Racing Team, his April plans were drastically altered when he crashed after 55km of racing during Thursday’s GP Pino Cerami.

Counting himself among the walking wounded who emerged from the recent Tour of Qatar, Tony Cruz has been fighting a nasty sinus infection which has affected his quality time with his bicycle. Though frustrated by a nagging cold, Tony’s health is getting back to normal, and he is revving to go.

Since Antonio Cruz turned professional in 1999, he has raced for the most dominant US teams, starting with Saturn and more recently with Discovery Channel. Although he is entering into his tenth year of professional racing, 2008 will offer Cruz some new opportunities with the BMC Racing Team.

Tony Cruz is back in the European peloton after racing last season on the domestic circuit with Toyota-United. The 35-year-old Californian says he still has unsettled business in Europe and rejoins Discovery Channel more motivated than ever.
