When he was just a kid, Robert Power discovered rugby and he looked poised to have a long career there. But fate had other plans and after a knee-injury when he was 13-years-old, he shifted towards cycling, with the Midlands Cycling Club, and this turned out to be an excellent decision. After doing the velodrome for one year, Robert finally tried some road racing and as seasons passed, he got stronger and more experienced, which helped him get some impressive results in the Juniors while racing in Europe (GC podiums in the Giro della Lunigiana and Giro di Basilicata).

While Caleb Ewan might get most of the attention when it comes to the Jayco-AIS World Tour Academy Team, he is just one of many exciting riders on the squad. Another promising talent is West Australian Robert Power. CyclingTips editor Matt de Neef caught up with Rob at the Tour d’Azerbaidjan where the 19-year-old was riding for the Australian National Team.

Interview Robert Power.

Cycling Updates, Wesley Verheijen & Ruud Arts, 13 March 2014

Robert Power is a huge talent from Australia, as many other Australians he started his career on the track but he made the switch to the road. Robert feels most at home when the road goes uphill, but he has a lot of power on the flat as well and can ride a great time trial. This combination makes Robert Power a really good GC rider. He is a first year u23 rider this year but he already made his pro debut and he already managed to win the Oceania Cycling Championships u23. We will surely hear a lot from him in the future! Cycling Updates spoke to Robert, read the interview below.
