Tao Geoghegan Hart is one of the many young, up-and-coming riders who are the future of cycling. The WorldTour beckons, but at the moment the young man from the London Borough of Hackney is in his third year with the US development team; Axeon Hagens Berman and is racking up a fine palmarès. Ed Hood got hold of Tao after a great performance in the Tour des Pays de Savoie.

20-year-old Tao Geoghegan Hart is riding his second season with Axeon Cycling, the team managed by former pro Axel Merckx, which throughout the years has put many riders on the World Tour map. Since joining the US-based squad, the Hackney-born rider – touted by many to be a future Grand Tour winner – got to take part in big events, like the Tour of California, the Tour of Utah and the Tour of Britain, as well as in some of the most prestigious U23 races out there: Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tour de l’Avenir.

Tao Geoghegan Hart , 19 ans, est l’un des espoirs du cyclisme Britannique. D’origine Écossaise et Anglaise, le jeune coureur vient de finir 10ème du Tour de l’Avenir. Il s’est découvert des qualités de grimpeur sur ce tour, lui qui aime les classiques et les pavés. Le coureur du Team Bissell Development s’est confié à Be Celt avant le grand départ à Liverpool.

A tout juste 19 ans, le jeune Britannique Tao Geoghegan Hart entame sa première saison en élite. Après une belle 3ème place sur le Liège-Bastogne-Liège la semaine dernière, il confirme son état de forme actuel. Membre du team Bissell d’Axel Merckx avec son ami Clément Chevrier, il nous a confié ses réactions après son séjour européen.

Tao Geoghegan Hart had a very impressive season in 2013, he combined the track with the road and was very strong in all the races he participated in. He started with a podium finish in Paris Roubaix for juniors and went on to make a big impression in all the big races he participated in. Besides going well on cobbles Geoghegan Hart seems strongest when the road goes uphill, and because of his climbing abilities he managed to win the GC in the Tour of Istria (2.Ncup) and the Giro Internazionale della Lunigiana (2.1)The Bissell Development team saw his talent so in 2014 Tao will be riding for this famous development team.

He has a name that's hard to miss, Tao Geoghegan Hart; with 2013 results to match - two of Europe's premier junior stage races and a podium in the junior Paris-Roubaix. And for 2014 the 18 year-old from London is off to follow the path trodden by his mentor, Movistar's Essex chronoman, Alex Dowsett; heading for the USA under the tutelage of Axel Merckx at Bissell - formerly Trek/Bontrager.

One of the most brightest talents that will race next season in the U23 ranks, Tao Geoghegan Hart had an impressive series of results in 2013. His adventure started in the Junior Paris-Roubaix and ended a couple of months later, in Firenze, where he raced the Road Race at the World Championships. In just half of year, he won two stage races (Tour of Istria and Giro della Lunigiana) and made sure of showing his potential, thus convincing Axel Merckx to offer him a contract at Bissell (ex-Bontrager).
