James Shaw will be back in the top league of cycling in 2022 with the US based EF Education-Nippo team. Ed Hood caught up with James to hear of his ‘up and down’ trajectory back to the WorldTour.

Ed Hood has been keeping an eye on James Shaw since he interviewed him as a 'Young Gun' stagiaire with Belgian WorldTour team, Lotto Soudal. Since then; Shaw spent two years with the Belgian formation before 'stepping down' to the UK based Swift Carbon Continental team for 2019. In 2020 Shaw will ride for the ProConti Riwal Readynez Cycling Team in some of the biggest races on the pro calendar, Ed caught up with him before the serious training starts.

The World Tour is a glamorous gig; until the team decides they no longer need you and with perfect timing break the news just two days before The Worlds. That was the fate which befell 22 years-old Englishman, James Shaw.

Just two years ago, James Shaw was about to become the youngest Briton to have joined a World Tour team. He had penned a two-year contract with Lotto Soudal and it seemed his future in cycling was very bright indeed.

James had arrived at midnight after a long travel day and as he came down to have our chat, I mentioned André was in the room behind us having breakfast. Being the pro he is, James excused himself and went to say hello to Andre before returning for the interview.

The Tour de France is over for another year, but life goes on and the steady stream of young riders still comes through. The Lotto Soudal team has just announced three stagiaires for the end of the 2016 season and the youngest of those hopefuls is James Callum Shaw. Ed Hood caught up with James recently to hear about his Belgian adventure.

The last time we spoke to young Englishman, James Shaw he'd just won the junior edition of Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. Recently he's followed in the footsteps of Adam Blythe and Dan McLay by signing for Lotto's U23 'feeder' team.
