Apart from the occasional blog on his own website, Johan Bruyneel has been virtually invisible over the last 18 months. Wrapped up in several legal battles on both sides of the Atlantic, and in several courts of jurisdiction, he has for the most part remained silent.

Johan Bruyneel estime qu'Alberto Contador a fait le plus dur. Du coup, il compte sur l'Espagnol pour aider Lance Armstrong samedi au Mont Ventoux. Une montée qui n'a jamais souri à l'Américain, rappelle le manager d'Astana, qui aimerait bien voir L.A. se réconcilier, enfin, avec le Ventoux.

Pour Johan Bruyneel, pas de doute, Alberto Contador aurait dû s'abstenir d'attaquer dans la Colombière mercredi. Mais pour le manager belge d'Astana, le maillot jaune reste l'unique objectif sur ce Tour de France. Alors, tant pis si les places d'Amrstrong et Kloeden sur le podium sont sacrifiées.

Il y a eu le couple ennemi Hinault-Lemond en 1986, quand la cohabitation entre les leaders de La Vie Claire s'était muée en féroce rivalité. Y aura-t-il un remake chez Astana en 2009 ? Certainement pas !, clame Johan Bruyneel en confirmant Contador dans sa position de leader.

As I sat down with Johan Bruyneel in Solvang at the Discovery Channel Team training camp this past week, I mentioned that he was a little late arriving at camp last year due to the birth of his first child, Victoria. He smiled, said yes, and said now he would miss her first birthday, and probably her first steps too, as she's about ready to walk.
