A la bataille pour le maillot à pois sur le Tour de France, Fredrik Kessiakoff s'est illustré dans un tout autre registre ce mercredi sur le Tour d'Espagne. C'est sur le seul chrono individuel de l'épreuve qu'il a en effet brillé, en s'adjugeant la victoire devant les favoris tels qu'Alberto Contador et Christopher Froome. Le Suédois remporte à 32 ans sa première victoire sur un Grand Tour. Et il ne cachait pas sa joie à l'arrivée.

Fredrik Kessiakoff took the cycling world by surprise when he won the long time trial in Tour de Suisse in front of home favorite Fabian Cancellara. Afterwards the Swede said he didn't think it would be enough to get a spot on Astana's Tour de France team, but luckily for Kessiakoff he turned out to be wrong about that.

Fredrik Kessiakoff started the Vuelta a España as a likely support rider for new signing Andrey Kashechkin, but his strong performance plus Kashechkin’s absence of form has meant the roles have reversed and Kessiakoff is now the protected rider on the team.

Die Österreich Rundfahrt hat mit der Bergankunft am Kitzbüheler Horn ihr erstes großes HIghlight erlebt. Thomas Rohregger findet sich in den offiziellen Ergebnislisten als bester Österreicher auf Rang fünf wieder. Aber auch der Sieger, Fredrik Kessiakoff, hat rot-weiß-rote Wurzeln.

Nell'anno in cui Cadel Evans vince il titolo mondiale su strada c'è anche un altro ex-biker che fa il suo esordio su strada con la maglia della Fuji-Servetto: stiamo parlando dello svedese Frederik Kessiakoff che a 28 anni compiuti ha deciso di abbandonare le ruote grasse.

‘Velo 2009,’ the annual professional cycling bible, makes no mention of Fredrik Kessiakoff (Sweden). That’s because in 2008 he was in the world of fat tyres, grip shifts, flat bars and suspension – a mountain biker, albeit, one of the best in the world.

The swedish champion of the team Cannondale Vredestein is fully recovered since the accident occured him last november. Now he is waiting for the new season and the year 2008 with a lot of ambitious targets.
