Cycling has perhaps more than it’s fair share of dreamers – take New Zealand’s Pure Black Continental team as a ‘for instance.’ After a solid 2011 season with much talk of moving up to the Pro Continental ranks in the near future came . . . . nothing. The team’s ambitions came to naught as the money ran out.

It’s a few years now since we met up with Kiwi Tim Gudsell; since then, he’s been through the mill with injuries. But those Antipodeans are a resilient lot and this season has seen the 27 year-old former team pursuiter’s name back on the result sheets.

At Ghent Wevelgem, back in the spring, Tim Gudsell (Française des Jeux) was on the way back from a bad crash in the Tour Down Under – six months later he’s much further south, the hills are a lot bigger and it’s much warmer as we spoke to him after the Vuelta’s second mountain stage.

We bumped into genial New Zealander Tim Gudsell, who rides for Marc Madiot’s Francaise des Jeux outfit, on the eve of Gent –Wevelgem. A few days later we received an email from him asking if we could give his new website a plug. “Sure!” we said, “but we’ll need an interview to go with it!”
