Mathew Hayman
Hayman on Roubaix: “Arenberg, it’s super rough but…” (2)

Ride, 15 Abril 2014
This is part two of an interview done the day after Paris-Roubaix with Mathew Hayman of the Orica-GreenEdge team. He’s explained his loss of many minutes to the winner, Niki Terpstra, and how two punctures in three kilometres near the final sector of pavé ended any hope he may have had on a day when he was not only a leader but also finding his rhythm on the cobbled roads leading to Roubaix. The discussion takes place over the phone with Hayman at his home in Belgium, and Rob Arnold at RIDE HQ in Sydney.

Mathew Hayman – on Roubaix (1)
On the eve of his son’s third birthday Mathew Hayman was working on a Sunday. He was riding his bike to Roubaix over nasty cobblestones. Next week he turns 36 and he’ll have forgotten about the pain that was conjured while doing his job. The “video” in his mind, however, will still playback the imag

He scored 139 professional wins, including the Three days of De Panne an amazing five times, Ghent-Wevelgem, The Tour of Flanders and, in 1987, Paris-Roubaix. It was one of the most savage editions of the race, ever with only 47 finishers from 192 starters. Ed Hood caught up with Eric to talk about

Giant Shimano's Slovenian Powerhouse.
A name which started to appear in the sprint finishes last season was that of Slovenian, Luka Mezgec – his team last year was Argos-Shimano and the podiums came in stages of the Tours of Alberta, Colorado and Italy plus the Belgian semi-classic, Halle-Imgooigem. Mezgec was originally a mountain

Magnus Backstedt on winning the Queen of the Classics.
It takes a special rider to win the Hell of the North, and few have been able to add the Queen of the Classics to their palmares – and even fewer from outside of Belgium. Swedish rider Magnus Backstedt is one rider to have earned a place in the elite list of winners, however, out-sprinting Trista

On UHC’s Cosmopolitan Race Schedule.
It was 2009 the Tour of Ireland when I first spoke to big Slovenian Aldo Ino Ilešiè; but the rolling Emerald Isle countryside didn’t really suit his ‘brick built out house’ sprinter’s build.

What a season Mauro is having. I first interviewed him back in December as part of my 25 riders to watch in 2014 list. He is doing us proud.
