Things were looking pretty rosy for Tom Zirbel at the end of 2009. He'd won stages at Nature Valley, Fitchburg, the Cascade Classic, Elk Grove and he'd placed fourth in the Worlds TT in Mendrisio. The ink was dry on a nice crisp contract with Garmin...but then disaster struck.

New Goals
British Jonathan Bellis had a promising career ahead of him but in September 2009 his whole life was suddenly on hold as he was hit by a car and put into a coma for six weeks. After a long period between life and death, he is now on his way back to professional cycling.

Thomas Frei was Swiss Junior champion in road cycling in 2002 and won the U23 Swiss mountain championships as well. Frei rode for Astana in 2007/2008 before joining the BMC Racing Team in 2009. In June he was given a two-year ban for testing positive to the banned substance EPO.
