'That's Stannard in third place!' I hollered to Dave, through the storm at the top of the Kwaremont on Sunday. A couple of hours later, the big, affable Englishman was still in that position as the 26 survivors limped into Kuurne. We thought we'd better have a word.

Tyler Farrar was one of the break-out riders in 2009. With 11 victories and a constant threat in the sprints, the 25-year-old vaulted into the elite pro ranks. A podium spot last weekend at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad confirmed that Farrar is on the right track for another big season in 2010.

Tom Zirbel decided to retire from professional cycling last week after receiving a two-year suspension from the United States Anti-Doping Agency. The time trial specialist tested positive for Dehydroepiandrosterone from a urine sample taken by USADA following the USPro Championships.

Hunting a big Classic win
Cervélo Test Team rider Heinrich Haussler emphasised before the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad that he wouldn’t be in a position to chase a big result due to a sore knee, but proved himself wrong yesterday when he finished as runner-up to solo victor Juan Antonio Flecha (Team Sky).

Looking forward to Murcia
Two years ago, Ross Creber was a mountain biker, last year he won the Scottish road race championship. This year he's part of Endura Racing's continental adventure; he rode the Tour of the Mediterranean, sat out Haut Var but will back for the Tour of Murcia.

As Classics Season Opens, Farrar Looks for a Win
Last spring, Tyler Farrar was looking to bust out. He became one of the few riders to beat super-sprinter Mark Cavendish head-to-head, when he won the third stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. But Farrar’s season was temporarily derailed when he crashed 100km into Milan-San Remo and separated his shoulder.

Back on Track
In 2006 Michael Rogers showed his talent on the big stage, finishing ninth in the Tour de France. Last season he was starting to get back to full fitness after contracting the Epstein-Barr virus and in 2010, he’s looking the best he’s looked over the last ten years.

Sky certainly don't seem to be very popular
Another weekend of hard racing in February and it's it's apparent that the French teams have done their homework. It was AG2R and FdJ who did a great job reminding us all that they've put in the cold, tough wintertime work. Endura's Evan Oliphant was on hand enjoying the early season festivities.
