Canada’s Michael Barry (Columbia-HTC) just finished the Tour of Missouri where he was the top Canuck overall and snagged the Most Aggressive Rider jersey on the final stage in Kansas City. We caught up with him before he jetted off to Europe to prepare for the Road World Championships.

Not Making Any Mistakes
Cervelo’s Dan Fleeman first came to our attention when he won the 2008 Tour of the Pyrenees and we’ve kept in touch with the 26 year-old Englishman ever since. He’s back in action in the Tour of Britain and will be racing right through to Lombardia.

Dutch courage at the Vuelta
Rabobank’s Robert Gesink crossed the finish line at the end of Wednesday’s 17th stage of the Vuelta with a large white bandage on his left leg and blood seeping through the cloth. It was a frustrating moment for the talented 23-year-old, who had already crashed out of the Tour de France this year.

Cadel Evans vows to keep fighting in this Vuelta a España, but he will probably lose sleep when he thinks about his ill-timed puncture in Saturday’s decisive climbing stage to Sierra Nevada. The Aussie’s chances of overall victory were shattered when he punctured near the Cat. 1 Monachil summit.

Taking Time to Re-Connect
At Ghent Wevelgem, back in the spring, Tim Gudsell (Française des Jeux) was on the way back from a bad crash in the Tour Down Under – six months later he’s much further south, the hills are a lot bigger and it’s much warmer as we spoke to him after the Vuelta’s second mountain stage.

Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Slipstream) made history Friday when he became the first Canadian to win a stage at the Vuelta a España. Hesjedal also delivered Garmin’s second consecutive stage victory at the Vuelta with a gutsy late-stage performance up the grueling Velefique climb.

‘It finally came together’
After a string of close calls, with no less than nine second places in grand tours in 2009, including second by Ryder Hesjedal in Tuesday’s 10th stage, Farrar was first across the line in a major three-week race in Wednesday 11th stage at the Vuelta a España.
