Für Sabine Spitz war es die vierte WM-Medaille ihrer Karriere. Nach Bronze 2001 und 2002 sowie Gold 2003 komplettierte sie ihre Sammlung und krönte eine erfolgreiche Saison, in der sie unter anderem den Europameistertitel und Silber bei der Marathon-WM gewonnen hatte.
