ejay van Garderen has been the nearly man in the Tour de France with two 5th places in the last four years. This year he will be part of a two pronged BMC attack with new signing, Richie Porte by his side. We caught up with Tejay to get the lowdown on his plans for the coming season.

Ah yes, the rest day, the chance to catch up on ordinary chores and step off Planet Tour if only for a few hours. It’s also the time when teams organise media calls that are less chaotic than on the roadside beside a team bus before or after a stage.

The Tejay van Garderen who showed up in Aspen, Colorado for the US Pro Cycling Challenge wasn't the same rider who lost the race by 21 seconds last year and 17 seconds the year before. This wasn't the guy who had curled up in a traumatized ball of angst at the finish of that first Vail time trial or the guy who mentally cracked under the relentless attacks by Garmin-Sharp and faded on the final day in Denver.

Nacido el 12 de agosto de 1988, el norteamericano de Washington dejó el HTC-Columbia en 2011 para firmar por el conjunto del BMC. Lejos de ir a menos, el maillot blanco de mejor joven ha crecido en cada temporada, siendo considerado ya como una de las más firmes promesas del ciclismo actual.



En el Tour mi trabajo será ayudar a Evans en las montañas.

Tejay Van Garderen es uno de los mejores ciclistas de la actualidad, rango que se ganó a pulso con brillantes actuaciones, como la del Tour de Francia 2012, en el que concluyó quinto en la general y fue el Mejor Joven.

American Tejay Van Garderen wound up second overall to Giovanni Visconti in the Presidential Tour of Turkey last Sunday, an eight-stage, 1,232-kilometer race from Istanbul to the Mediterranean resort of Alanya.

Last year he was a stage winner in the Fleche du Sud, GP Tell and Tour de l’Avenir. This year he stepped up a level; taking the GC in the Circuito Montanes and Tour du Haut Anjou as well as second on GC in the Tour de l’Avenir, plus a stage win in the Olympia Tour. And he’s still only 21!

When American Tejay Van Garderen rolls out of the start house at the under-23 world time trial championship on Wednesday he’ll do so as a medal favorite. The Colorado native spent 2008 and 2009 riding with the Rabobank Continental Professional team and will join Columbia-HTC next year,
