Eduard Grosu is the best Romanian cyclist at this moment and the only one in the country who attended a Grand Tour twice. In the last season, Grosu ranked several times in top 10 in races like Tour de San Luis, Giro d’Italia, Sibiu Cycling Tour and Vuelta a Burgos.

In 1936, four Romanian riders lined-up in Paris for the 30th edition of the Tour de France: George Hapciuc, Virgil Mormocea, Nicolae Tapu and Constantin Tudose. They were all amateurs and under the age of 30, and the Tour de France was their career highlight in terms of events raced, but it didn’t turn out to be a nice memory, as the weather, the crashes and the fast pace of the professional riders made their life a living hell in the first days of the race. Because of that, all four came after the time limit at various points during the race and were eventually disqualified.

At the start of last year, Edi Grosu was an unknown for many, as 2014 was his first season at a Continental level. Riding for Vini Fantini-Nippo, the young Romanian took people by surprise with his very good results, going on to win six races (including the Tour of Estonia GC and the U23 national title) and getting 22 top-10 placings. Thanks to his impressive run, Grosu received a new contract from Nippo-Vini Fantini after the team went Pro Continental, which means that he’ll get to ride in World Tour races in 2015 and prove what he’s worth against some of the best riders in the peloton.

I want to become national champion in 2014.

A promising Junior, with good results in Switzerland and Italy, 21-year old Eduard Grosu caught the attention of Pro teams in 2013, after he won stage 3 in the Tour of Romania and Gran Premio Sannazzaro. These wins helped him get a contract with Vini Fantini-Nippo-De Rosa, a Continental team run by Stefano Giuliani and Alessandro Spezialetti. For his new team, Edi Grosu raced in the Gran Premio Costa degli Etruschi, and his debut was promising, riding in the break and getting the the award for the most aggressive cyclist.
