Charles Wegelius è stato per tante stagioni un ottimo professionista. L’inglese ha militato a lungo in squadre italiane, come Mapei e Liquigas, e ha chiuso la carriera nel 2011 alla UnitedHealthcare. Oggi Charly, tutti lo chiamano così, è uno dei direttori sportivi della EF Education – EasyPost.

After racing more than a decade at the top level, Charly Wegelius couldn’t find a contract with a European-based ProTeam after his latest two-year stint at Omega Pharma-Lotto. He signed on with UnitedHealthcare, a move that he called a “silver lining to a dark cloud.”

Charly Wegelius wasn’t meant to be riding the Tour but due to a certain Mr Dekker’s “problems” back in his Rabobank days, the Englishman with the Finnish name got the call to arms. Right after stage 3 he took time to talk to Pez about weddings, stress, zoos, and, oh, yeah – Lance.
