Ireland has enjoyed a renaissance of late with success that rivals the glory days of Stephen Roche and Sean Kelly in the 1980s. One rider who came up alongside this latest wave of Irish talent was Philip Deignan. In fact, he won a grand tour stage before any of his peers, with a breakaway stage win and ninth overall at the 2009 Vuelta a España.
