The controversial German, enjoyed a return to better days in 2013. Riding for the small Meridiana Kamen Team he managed to claim the GC, points and mountains jerseys in the Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda. He also won the mountains jersey in Okolo Slovenska and a stage in the Istrian Spring Trophy and 3rd overall.
