When Tom Faiers was 18 and training in Murcia he met Alejandro Valverde and Luis Leon Sanchez who encouraged him to race in Spain.
Faiers found it really hard to start with but his breakthrough came in 2009 with eighth in the Vuelta Madrid, one of the biggest under 23 races in Spain.
