Tom Danielson
Delivering the goods

velonews.com, 14 September 2006
Tom Danielson won't win this Vuelta a España, but his dramatic stage victory in Wednesday's 159.2km 17th stage from Adra to Granada bolstered his belief that someday he might. The 28-year-old finally delivered the big victory that everyone has been expecting from him since he came to Europe to race in 2004 with Fassa Bortolo.

Man for the future
With the Vuelta currently in the mountains for three tough days of high-altitude racing, many eyes will be focussed on the battle for the maillot oro. However those with an interest in the future of the sport will also be keeping tabs on the progress of the highly promising Slovenian rider Janez Bra

Into the last week now
Magnus has a final day off before the big push for Madrid.

Carlos Sastre

Fight until the end
Sastre is still within striking distance of the lead in the Vuelta a España although he has not been the strongest climber in the race. Despite this, he has vowed to fight all the way to Madrid. Cyclingnews spoke to Sastre on rest day 2.

Francisco Ventoso

Beating the best
At the finish of Stage 3, the big names were in Almendralejo - Erik Zabel, Robbie McEwen, Alessandro Petacchi and Thor Hushovd. The bunch sprint came but none of them prevailed. On that day, it was Francisco Ventoso who had his moment of glory.

"A pretty good first year"
Judith Arndt and Ina-Yoko Teutenberg turned in impressive performances at the Holland Ladies Tour and the World Cup leg in Rotterdam last week. With two stage wins and her victory in Rotterdam, Teutenberg showed she’s in fine form ahead of Sunday’s Word Cup finale in Nuremberg.

Ryder Hesjedal

"So far, it's been pretty good"
Ryder Hesjedal is now halfway through his first Vuelta, and continues to hold a top-20 position in the overall standings (18th after stage 13). We spoke with Ryder earlier this week after he had completed the first set of grueling mountain stages.

Fred Rodriguez

Looking for redemption
It's been a season of close calls and falls for Fred Rodriguez. The three-time U.S. champion has piled up armloads of seconds and thirds as well as gotten caught up in his fair share of pile ups this season, including one that sent him tumbling out of the Tour de France.

Giosuè Bonomi
teambarloworld.com,
8 September 2006

"I'll get it right eventually"
Giosue Bonomi has talent but his story is like that of many other riders: he shows he has above average ability but, for some reason or another, he still hasn't managed to win a race.

Dario Cioni
pezcyclingnews.com,
8 September 2006

Champagne tonight
It was those Liquigas guys again – or should that be ‘Full-gas’ guys? Luca Paolini did what Magnus Backstedt and Dario have been saying he would do since the start and took a Vuelta stage.

Gordon Fraser

Time to move on
Health Net-Maxxis is just one of the teams that Gord Fraser has raced for during his long career - a career that has been spent racing in both North America and Europe. After twelve years of racing as a professional, Fraser realises that the time is right to move on to the next chapter.

Magnus Backstedt
pezcyclingnews.com,
6 September 2006

Have a few beers, do a bit of shopping, take in a movie....
Well, there's nothing else to do, is there? After all, it is a 'rest day'. But what to do first? (Me, I vote for a few Bavarias) But maybe we'd better ask Magnus....

Liam Killeen
cyclingnews.com,
6 September 2006

Formula for success
With only one more complete season of competition before the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the riders that will be contenders in the cross country race are becoming apparent. One of the shiniest stars in the bunch is Great Britain's Liam Killeen, a rider that has shown natural ability and the kind of ye

Riccardo Riccò

" nobody gives you anything "
After a bad crash on the second stage, 22 year-old Saunier Duval neo-pro Ricardo Riccò exorcised his demons on the last day of the Settimana Ciclistica Internazionale Coppi-Bartali, beating none other than Olympic champion Paolo Bettini in a head-to-head sprint. His next aim is to "ride a good Giro

Jason MacIntyre

Jason MacIntyre - British Circuit Time Trial Champion
It's not every day that a Scotsman pulls-on a British champion's jersey and the Fort William man did that very thing after Sunday's British circuit time trial championship near Farnborough.

Mark Cavendish
britishcycling.org.uk,
4 September 2006

"This is what I have been aiming for"
Before the fifth stage of the Tour of Britain from Rochester to Canterbury, 21 year-old Mark Cavendish put pen to paper and signed a two-year contract with the prestigious T-Mobile Team.

Dario Cioni

Las Montagnes
Just before we spoke to Dario on Saturday evening, Luca Paolini had narrowly failed with a late victory-bid, over-hauled by a resurgent Alexandre Vinokourov on the drag to the finish at Lugo.
