During his professional career from 1999 through 2013, Italian Marco Pinotti was one of the most respected racers in the pro peloton. He won the Italian national time trial championships a record six times, as well as numerous stages in the Giro d’Italia, and he wore the race’s pink jersey on two occasions. In 2009, he joined the Columbia High Road team — a team which set new standards in terms of clean racing as well as competitive results. He finished his career in 2013 with BMC Racing, where he remains as a sports trainer, and where he recently guided the team to victory in the world time trial championships in Richmond, Virginia.

Six-time Italian national time trial champion Marco Pinotti is in the final year of his current contract with the BMC Racing Team but has indicated that he is hoping for one more season in the peloton before hanging up his wheels. The 37 year old, who recovered from shoulder injuries sustained at last year’s world championships and this year’s Tour of the Mediterranean, and once again won the Italian TT title in June, is aiming for a strong end of season.

Just over a minute off a bronze medal and eleven seconds away from Taylor Phinney’s fourth place, Marco Pinotti posted a very strong Olympic performance for Italy yesterday. Just over three months ago Marco Pinotti had a bad crash on stage 19 of the Giro d’Italia, fracturing his acetabulum in his pelvis. Bed-bound for weeks, he returned to training at the start of August and, five weeks on from that, is ready to begin racing again.

Marco Pinotti crashed badly during this years Giro d’Italia, resulting in a compound fracture of his hip and an enforced period of up to three months off the bike. After undergoing surgery to repair the damage, Marco is finally turning the pedals again in the hope of a full recovery.

Marco Pinotti was close to getting the pink jersey back at the end of stage 5 of the Giro d’Italia. But the engineer from HTC-Highroad said at the start of the race in Piombino, that he was already delighted with what he achieved on the first day of the Italian Grand Tour.

Marco Pinotti won the Italian time trial title for a fifth time on Sunday, dominating the 37.3km race around Treviso in the northern Veneto region. His win came after taking an impressive ninth place overall in the Giro d'Italia in May.

Marco Pinotti was born on February 25, 1976 in Osio Sotto, Lombardy and rides for Team Columbia-HighRoad. He is the current, and three time, Italian National Time Trial Champion, and has worn the Maglia Rosa of the Giro d’Italia (2007).

One year ago, on May 18th, Marco Pinotti's career reached its high point. In the Giro d'Italia the Italian escaped with Luis Felipe Laverde on the stage to Spoleto and took over the maglia rosa of race leader. For an Italian rider it was a dream moment; he went on to hold the jersey for four days.

Marco Pinotti of Team High Road raced last week’s Flèche Wallonne classic in Belgium for the fourth time in his career and teammate Kim Kirchen won the race in large part due to his team’s strategy which allowed Pinotti to be in the main breakaway of the day.

Donderdag wordt in Salzburg het WK tijdrijden voor de profs gereden. Een van de outsiders voor de titel is Marco Pinotti. Pinnoti kreeg samen met Vincenzo Nibali de kans om voor Italië uit te komen op het WK.
