Perhaps no rider benefitted from the Amgen Tour of California more than Toms Skujins, whose stage win in 2015 helped launch his WorldTour career. Peter Sagan might have won more stages, and others riders took the race’s overall. But California served as the springboard for the Latvian star to enter the WorldTour...

Psyched for his World Tour debut

2015 was a breakthrough year for Toms Skujiņš, the promising Latvian rider who confirmed once again his place is in the World Tour, where he eventually got in October, after signing with Cannondale. During the second season with Continental team Hincapie Racing, the 24-year-old won stage three of the Tour of California with an impressive solo ride and got to wear the yellow jersey for three days. Then, he took the victory in the Winston Salem Cycling Classic and concluded the first part of the year with a solid second place in Tour de Beauce.

This year, Latvian cycling received a boost at the U23 category, and one of the riders responsible for this is Toms Skujiòð. Only 22 years old, the cyclist from Carnikava had three wins, the most important of these coming in the overall classification of the Peace Race. It wasn’t the only highlight of the season for Skujiòð, who raced also the World Championships in Firenze and finished the road race 5th. A strong rider, who isn’t afraid of pain, hard one-day races and mountains, Toms Skujiòð now hopes to get a contract in the pro peloton, in order to show on the big stage what he’s made of.



2015 will be bigger, better and faster.

The recently concluded season was the best of Hincapie Sports Development since the inception of the team, the US Continental team scoring four wins in the UCI America Tour. Three of these victories were brought by Toms Skujiòð, the 23-year-old Latvian rider who had a strong season, in which, besides his results, he discovered the States, adapting himself to the US lifestyle and races.
