Scottish Road Champion 2014.

VeloVeritas, Ed Hood, 2 June 2014

The Giro was a wonderful race, no question; but whilst it's charging across Italy everything else gets ignored - like the Scottish Road Race Championship, for example. The winner was - unsurprisingly - Raleigh's Evan Oliphant.

The First Scottish Premier Calendar Winner

Raleigh's Evan Oliphant recently made some cycling history when he became the first Scotsman to win the Star Trophy - or as it's known now, 'The Premier Calendar.' But 'Star Trophy' just sounds so much better. The season long contest was first run in 1959 when the legendary John Perks won it the names engraved upon the silver demand respect - Les West, Hugh Porter, Phil Griffiths, Malcolm Elliott, Paul Curran and Russell Downing to name a few.

“Commy Games: I would really have liked a medal”

'Close, but no cigar' was the story of Evan Oliphant's Games - two top six placings on the track, a sterling support job for David Millar in the road race and a top 12 finish against the clock couldn't compensate for not bringing home a shiny disc of bright metal.

We left our Tour of Britain 'catch up' with Evan Oliphant until after the British track champs, on the off chance that he might break the BC/Sky grip on affairs - fat chance.

Despite a clash with the Vuelta, the Tour of Britain boasts probably it's strongest ever field. Endura Racing's Evan Oliphant is VeloResults man in the peloton. We spoke to him after Vacansoleil's stage 4 blitzkreig.

Ever-versatile Endura man, Evan Oliphant crammed just about every discipline into last weekend - criterium, Premier one day and a British grass track title. We had a word...

The 2010 edition of the Drummond Trophy saw Endura's domination of the domestic road racing scene march on with a 1-2 for Evan Oliphant and James McCallum; and only a determined Robert Hassan kept Ross Creber off the podium and prevented an Endura whitewash.

“We took more out of Murcia than Team Sky”

Our man in the peloton - Endura's Evan Oliphant - took us through the rigours of The Med and Haut Var. Next up was the Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia. Murcia may have been no cake walk but it had a happy ending for Endura - taking the sprints jersey and numerous top ten finishes.

Sky certainly don't seem to be very popular

Another weekend of hard racing in February and it's it's apparent that the French teams have done their homework. It was AG2R and FdJ who did a great job reminding us all that they've put in the cold, tough wintertime work. Endura's Evan Oliphant was on hand enjoying the early season festivities.

Stages one and two were a whirlwind of snow, wind, attacks from the gun, echelons and pain - but the inner chain rings enjoyed the rest! Were days three, four and five any easier? Endura Racing's Evan Oliphant was there 'til the bitter end.

The Tour of the Mediterranean; a nice way to ease into the season; a big bunch floating along under early sunshine with a bunch sprint at the end? Not quite!
