Stage 9 of the 2018 Tour de France will race from Arras to Roubaix and will hit fifteen sections of the 'Hell of the North' cobbles and so who better to talk to than Paris-Roubaix winner and sports director Dirk Demol. Matt Wood caught up with the Trek-Segafredo man to get his thoughts on Tour cobbles, Roubaix and escaping the factory.

Trek Factory Racing komt morgen met een ploeg underdogs aan de start van Parijs-Roubaix. Voor het eerst in jaren moet ploegleider Dirk Demol het zonder kopman Fabian Cancellara doen, die geblesseerd thuis zit. Het letterlijk wegvallen van Cancellara brengt de Amerikaanse ploeg van de schijnwerpers naar de schaduw, maar ook die positie past Demol. In 1988 won hij als outsider namelijk zelf de Helleklassieker.

A former rider and winner of Paris-Roubaix, back in 1988, after the longest successful breakaway in the history of the race (222 kilometers), Dirk Demol is one of Trek Factory Racing’s sport directors, and this year he’s ready to lead the team once again in the Spring Classics. The experience he provides can be of huge help for triple Flanders and Roubaix winner Fabian Cancellara, whose main goals of the season will come in March and April, when the most important one-day races of the calendar are on the schedule.
