Een groot deel van de voorjaarsklassiekers en rittenkoersen hoopt later dit kalenderjaar alsnog plaats te vinden. Maar wanneer? Hoe lang mag het seizoen 2020 duren? Thomas De Gendt is sporting a new kit this season, riding in the red of Lotto Soudal after signing a two-year agreement with the squad at the end of his one-year deal with Omega Pharma-Quick Step last season. Joining a new organization two years in a row (De Gendt started with OPQS after Vacansoleil folded following the 2013 season) is never easy, but De Gendt knew that Lotto Soudal might be a place where he could be able to get comfortable with a new environment quickly.

Il a retrouvé sa liberté, Thomas De Gendt. Après avoir dû se cantonner à un rôle de coéquipier l’an passé chez Omega Pharma-Quick Step, il a récupéré son rôle d’electron libre chez Lotto-Soudal, où il a signé pour deux saisons. Et, dès sa troisième course de l’année (si on prend en compte le critérium d’ouverture du Tour Down Under), il a retrouvé ses automatismes en se lançant dans une longue échappée, ce qu’il fait de mieux.

Thomas De Gendt took the cycling world by surprise when he ended 3rd overall in the Giro d'Italia earlier this year. Originally Vuelta España was the Belgian's target this season, but it seems like the Giro podium cost him too much energy in order to repeat the performance in Spain.

Année après année, il monte en puissance, impressionne et s'impose comme l'un des leaders de sa formation Vacansoleil-DCM, voire de la Belgique. Auteur d’un très bon début de saison grâce, notamment, à son gros numéro lors de l'avant-dernière étape de Paris-Nice, Thomas De Gendt voit désormais plus loin. A 25 ans, il ne cesse d'étonner mais ne connait pourtant toujours pas ses limites. A l'aube de la campagne ardennaise et en dépit de l'absence de son leader, Bjorn Leukemans, Thomas De Gendt pourrait encore en épater plus d'un ces prochains jours lors des classiques wallonnes. Le « roule toujours » belge rêve de Liège-Bastogne-Liège, sa course préférée, et compte bien saisir sa chance et porter haut les couleurs de la Vacansoleil-DCM comme il l'explique à Cyclism'Actu. Et s'il passait encore un nouveau palier ? Avec De Gendt, rien ne semble impossible... Après les Classiques, il mettra le cap sur le Giro pour y gagner une étape, à défaut du Tour, durant lequel il préfère se marier. Qui est véritablement Thomas De Gendt ? Jusqu'où peut-il aller ? De Belg Thomas de Gendt maakte afgelopen winter de overstap van Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator naar Vacansoleil-DCM. De talentvolle Vlaming viel bij de Nederlandse ProTeam-ploeg op door zijn aanvalslust. Opmerkelijk was zijn prestatie in de Ronde van Groot-Brittannië.

In the 2009 Tour of Britain one of the stars of the show was a young Belgian from the Topsport Vlaanderen team, Thomas De Gendt. He enlivened the race and won the sprints and mountains jerseys. Much was expected of the man from St. Niklaas in 2010; but the big results refused to come.

Thomas De Gendt heeft een contract voor twee jaar ondertekend bij de Nederlandse wielerformatie Vacansoleil. De 23-jarige Belg viel dit jaar op met top-5 klasseringen in de eindklassementen van de Ster van Bessèges, Ronde van België en Ster Elektrotoer.

Thomas De Gendt is momenteel naast Jan Bakelandts prominent aanwezig in de kop van elke belangrijke beloftenwedstrijd in België. Een aantal vraagjes zijn dan ook op zijn minst op z’n plaats.
