After nearly two years out of competition, 46-year-old Chris Horner will return to racing Sunday at the US Pro Championships Road Race in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Chris Horner was supposed to contend for the Giro d’Italia and perhaps even defend his Vuelta a España crown.
But this is pro cycling. It rarely goes how it’s supposed to. Instead of taking the start in Belfast and contesting the Giro in the Italian Alps, the 42-year-old was hit by a car and left in an Italian tunnel in early April. The crash resulted in broken ribs and a punctured lung, but not a broken racer.

Entrevistarle. Ese era uno de los grandes objetivos con los que acudimos a la Challenge de Mallorca. Y fue fácil concertar la entrevista, a pesar de lo solicitado que estaba, gracias a que ya nos conocemos desde la Vuelta al País Vasco que ganó en 2010 y a que su director Matxin nos echó un cable.

Después de ganar la Vuelta, Chris Horner, 42 años, ha estado a punto de quedarse sin equipo. Con la temporada iniciada le ha fichado el Lampre italiano.

It wasn’t the thousands of kilometers of Spanish roads, nor the Vuelta’s pulsing attacks that did Chris Horner in this season. It was a Coke can.
The American RadioShack-Leopard rider crashed hard — like most riders, it seemed — during the UCI Elite Road World Championships on Sunday in Florence, Italy. When he did, he landed on a can full of Coke he’d put in his jersey pocket, cracking ribs in the process. That junk food. It may be the end of Chris Horner.

Chris Horner ha recuperado el rojo tras aventajar a Vincenzo Nibali en seis segundos en la cima del Naranco. Y ahora los tres segundos son a su favor antes de la decisiva ascensión al Angliru del sábado. Estas eran sus respuestas en la rueda de prensa posterior al final de la 19ª etapa de la Vuelta a España.
Tengo unas piernas increíbles, puedo ganar la Vuelta.

L’Alto de Hazallanas n’a pas volé sa réputation, ce lundi. Ses passages à 18% nous ont offert un beau spectacle et les favoris ont attaqué. Enfin ceux qui pouvaient ! Et le plus impressionnant a, bien entendu, été Chris Horner. Du haut de sa petite silhouette, l’Américain de presque 42 ans a réussi à mettre 48’’ à Vincenzo Nibali et 1 minute aux autres favoris. Certes, il a bénéficié du marquage des principaux favoris. Mais ça n’enlève rien à l’exploit du coureur de la Radioshack qui, rappelons-le, n’a toujours pas de contrat pour la saison prochaine. A l'avant-veille du seul chrono individuel, mercredi, de ce Tour d'Espagne et avant ce premier jour de repos sur cette Vuelta, ce mardi, Chris Horner dispose donc de 43’’ d'avance au général sur Vincenzo Nibali et de 53’’ sur Nicolas Roche. Reste à savoir jusqu’où peut aller Chris Horner ?
Chaque jour peut être le dernier.

La Vuelta des premières… ! Nicolas Roche a enlevé, hier dimanche, sa première victoire d’étape sur un grand Tour après avoir obtenu de nombreuses places d’honneur sur bon nombre d'éditions précédentes et de courses. Cette fois, c'est au tour de Christopher Horner de lever les bras pour la première fois sur une étape d'un grand Tour. Il lui aura fallu attendre d’avoir 41 ans - Horner aura même 42 ans en octobre prochain - pour obtenir ce succès tant espéré. L’ancien vainqueur du Tour du Pays-Basque, en 2010, aura donc eu raison de persévérer. Mais c’est surtout son grand amour du vélo qui est à l’origine de sa si longue carrière.

Chris Horner is one of the old hands in the Pro peloton, at 41 years old he’s seen a lot of things happen and witnessed a lot of changes. How much longer he will be plying his trade on the roads of Europe he doesn’t know, but one thing is for sure; he loves every minute of it. We were lucky enough to catch up with Chris in Spain earlier in the spring for a good chat about everything cycling.
I keep bumping into Chris Horner round the Costa Blanca area, if it’s not at a RadioShack Leopard training camp it was their team presentation or it was when he was out training from the house he owns in the area. Anyway it was good to be able to sit down and have a chat about his season to come and, yes, that man Lance Armstrong’s name did come up in the conversation.

Chris Horner (RadioShack-Nissan-Trek) will return to competition at Paris-Nice in March in what will be his first race since crashing out of the 2011 Tour de France.
The popular veteran suffered a horrible spill in stage 7. Later the whole world saw just how dazed and shaken up he was after suffering what was diagnosed as a concussion.
But it was a blood clot that later formed in the aftermath that became lodged in his chest that proved the most dangerous for Horner.

Vu ses résultats, l’Américain natif du Japon aurait tort de stopper sa carrière : la saison écoulée, il a remporté le Tour de Californie, s’est classé deuxième du Tour du Pays basque et quatrième du Tour de Catalogne. It hasn't been the easiest of seasons for Chris Horner, but he's not finished yet. Horner will be riding the final races in Italy starting this weekend and hopes to make up for some lost opportunities from 2009.

Chris Horner was riding extremely well at the Giro when a crash on stage 10 fractured the tibia in his left leg and forced him to retire. He is now back on the bike training in Aspen, Colorado with teammates Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer.
