Back in 2007 Darren Lapthorne won the Australian national road race championships with a solo attack 14km from the finish. Seven years on, Lapthorne took to 2014 nationals road race at the head of a 13-strong Drapac squad that was desperate to start its first year as a reborn ProConti squad in style. We caught up with "Lappers" after the race in which he finished sixth, just 23 seconds behind the winner, Simon Gerrans.

After winning the Australian National Road Champion in 2007 with Drapac-Porsche, Darren Lapthorne rode for German pro team Sparkasse in 2008 and then moved to Rapha Condor Sharp. In 2011 he'll be riding for Pegasus Racing and will hopefully be racing some of the biggest events on the Pro calendar.
