Benchmarks are great things to judge yourself by after a disappointing season and on the final stage of the Tour of Britain in London, Raleigh’s Ian Wilkinson was in the mix for the stage, finishing 6th with big name sprinters both ahead of him and behind as well.

This is always a nervous time of the year for riders in the British UCI teams as they cross their fingers and legs they are in their team’s Tour of Britain squad. For Ian Wilkinson, or Superman as he is also known, he was one of the chosen six in the Raleigh team which after his year of illness, is a big relief.

L’expérimenté Ian Wilkinson (34 ans) a rejoint la formation britannique Raleigh cette année en provenance de UK Youth. Le natif de Bristol que l’on surnomme Superman à cause de sa façon spectaculaire de franchir à l’horizontale les lignes d’arrivées découvre l’engouement autour de sa nouvelle formation qui a effectué sa soirée de présentation hier.

About to begin his sixth season as a pro roadman is Lancashire superman, Ian Wilkinson. Winner last year of the CiCLE Classic for the second time and the Stockton Grand Prix in July, Ian will be in some exciting new colours in 2014 which will be revealed at the Raleigh Team launch in a few weeks time.

Speaking to the Barnoldswick rider at Southwick near Portsmouth, he explained how 2012 had its highlights and low points. “I had a really strong start to the year with some wins in Belgium and France and podiums in UCI races and then ended the year with podiums in more UCI races like the Baltic Tour. There was the Newport Nocturne as well so it wasn’t a bad year but I faltered by my own standards in the Tour Series which is one of the main aims.”
