Alex Dowsett (Movistar Team) brought the first part of his 2017 racing season to a successful close last week, winning the 6.8km time trial stage – the 28 year old’s specialty – of the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe and followed that up finishing for the first time in his career arguably the toughest one-day race in the cycling calendar, the 257km cobbled Paris – Roubaix Classic.

Great Baddow’s Alex Dowsett (Movistar Team) smashed the national 25 mile time trial record on Saturday setting a time that’s 1 minute 13secs. quicker than the previous record time. And in doing so he dramatically raised his profile with the Team GB selectors ahead of the summer’s Rio Olympic Games.

Alex Dowsett (Essex, 3-10-88) creció con un programa de la federación británica en Toscana y logró un puesto profesional en el poderoso Sky pero en 2012 fichó por el Movistar español. Actualmente es el ciclista de moda lejos del Giro de Italia, ya que después de batir el récord de la hora ha ganado la Vuelta a Baviera. Riding in the red and white of Team England, Essex boy Alex Dowsett blasted round the roads of Glasgow on Thursday to win the Commonwealth Games men’s Time Trial gold medal and in doing so, helped wash away at least some of the disappointment of missing out on a hoped for ride in last month’s Tour de France.

A year ago, when fans learned Alex Dowsett was leaving Team Sky for Movistar, many questioned the decision but after a Grand Tour Stage win and a season with the Worlds number 1 team, that decision has shown to be the right one.

This weekend Alex starts his 2013 season in the colours of the Spanish outfit Movistar, probably the oldest team in cycling’s WorldTour. After two years riding for Team Sky, Britain’s biggest and most successful bike racing team, the move to Movistar will be a huge change for the 24 year old but one that he sees as being key to his desire for bigger racing challenges.

The over 800km race, split into six stages, was based around the South Australian capital of Adelaide and was designed to give sprinters and all-rounders an opportunity to shine in this prestigious opening race to the World Tour calendar.
With home boy Mick Rogers and Dowsett’s Norwegian room-mate Edvald Boasson Hagen in the Team Sky line-up, and both more than capable of mounting the winner’s podium, Dowsett knew that his role throughout the race would be to work for the two team leaders.

We recently caught up with Team Sky's Alex Dowsett for a Gatrorade track cycling masterclass at the Manchester Velodrome. Since then he has won the London Nocturne criterium and finished sixth at the Ster ZLM Tour.

Winner of the European time trial title in Turkey in July, 22 year-old Alex Dowsett, recently took time to chat about the latter part of his 2010 season and his plans for 2011. He’ll be racing as part of Team Sky, and is looking forward to moving up a level into the pro ranks.

21-year-old Essex cyclist Alex Dowsett overcame searing heat and exhaustion to win the gold medal in the U23 European Time Trial Championship. The former Olympic Academy rider was Great Britain's sole entrant in Turkey and it was his first major outing since breaking his scapula in May.

The last time we spoke to 22 year-old Englishman Alex Dowsett he’d just finished a fine seventh in the World Under 23 Time Trial Championship. At that stage he wasn’t sure about his team for 2010 - then along came Trek-Livestrong. We caught up with him at his new base in Boulder, Colorado.
