I had a very bad crash at the nationals in 2013. I broke my iliac crest, I had a 20-centimetre scar on my abdomen and had 100 stitches. I tore all my muscles up to my stomach. As soon as I had surgery, my mom came to my bedside in the hospital and said you need to believe that you can come back and make it to the world championships later in the year. Growing up in a sport-minded family probably helped Elisa become the cyclist she is now. She is a great competitor and proved it early in the 2015 season by winning the Tour of Flanders! We can’t wait to see her and her team Wiggle Honda racing in the next events. And who knows, maybe we’ll see her on the UCI Road World Championships podium again this year? Before that, she told us what she likes most in life. Let’s get started!

Last week I went to the Flèche Wallonne with Hitec Products UCK, and I was lucky enough to be able to interview Hitec's Elisa Longo Borghini, who came second, and Lotto Belisol's Ashleigh Moolman who came third, just after the race, when they'd sprinted neck-and-neck behind winner Marianne Vos.

«Il giro delle Fiandre è una gara molto impegnativa: il percorso mi piace particolarmente, tanto pavè, strappi corti, strade piccole, ottenere una top ten sarebbe il massimo». A parlare così è Elisa Longo Borghini, dal Belgio, campionessa di ciclismo, che domenica scorsa con una fuga strepitosa si è aggiudicata a Cittiglio (Va), sul "suo" Lago Maggiore, il Trofeo Binda, seconda prova di Coppa del Mondo di ciclismo.

Meet Team Hitec Products returning Italian team member, Elisa Longo-Borghini: Elisa didn’t want to get left behind when her brother started cycling so she jumped on the bike too and it’s a trend that hasn’t let up. Her brother now rides f…or Liquigas Cannondale and Elisa is ranked 13th in the world at the tender age of 21 – so I guess you could say cycling is in the Longo-Borghini blood.
