This week, Svein caught the cycling world's attention for a different reason: he is one of the stars of the Oscar-nominated Wonderful Losers documentary about the Giro and the domestique riders that don't capture the limelight. Right after that, his current Mitchelton-Scott team's bike sponsor Scott released a video about Svein riding his bike through the mountains of Andorra, where he makes his home.

He’s the man who used to take off with his dog on the bike trailer and head into the wilderness of the Yukon to camp rough for weeks on end. But there’s not much scope for the solitary life when you’re riding the Tour de France – especially as lantern rouge when L’Equipe prints your picture every day at the opposite end of the GC classement column from Chris Froome’s.

Top Canadian roadie Svein Tuft has been in the limelight recently given his signing with the new Australian pro team, GreenEdge. Tuft has been on a roller coaster ride since last fall when his former team, Pegasus Sports, was refused a UCI Pro Continental licence for 2011. Tuft left Garmin-Transitions to ride with Pegasus as one of its big name signings when Garmin-Transitions became Garmin-Cervelo.
