Only 21 years old, the Yates twins have decided to make the step to the World Tour level after a successful 2013 season, in which Simon won the world title on the track, two stages in the Tour de l‘Avenir and one in the Tour of Britain, while Adam finished second overall in the Avenir, the first British rider to do so in more than 30 years. In September, they announced their transfer to Orica-GreenEdge, a decision which surprised many, because Sky was also very interested in signing them.

British twins, Simon Yates and Adam Yates, will join the Orica-GreenEdge team in 2014. They are part of a feature in RIDE #62 about ‘The Class of 2013′ which profiles young riders from around the world who essentially enjoyed one form of graduation during the season… Caleb Ewan (who signed his first pro contract – for 2015 – earlier this year), Rohan Dennis (who was winning races as a neo pro in 2013), Damien Howson (the current under-23 TT world champion), as well as the talented Polish pair Rafal Majka and Michal Kwiatkowski.

Rising British star Simon Yates may have just signed a neo-pro contract with Orica-GreenEDGE, but the Manchester-born youngster has not forgotten where he comes from. Tour of Britain white jersey winner Simon, 21, and twin brother Adam, agreed terms with the Australian World Tour team last week, turning down a number of approaches from other big-name teams.
