Contratto rinnovato per un’altra stagione e la certezza che non correrà il Tour de France. Così Mark Cavendish si accinge a vivere quella che probabilmente sarà l’ultima stagione da professionista, con il brutto fuori programma della rapina subita nella casa dell’Essex che ha fruttato ai rapinatori un paio di orologi di immenso valore e portato nella famiglia britannica il seme della paura. Lasciando che la giustizia faccia il suo corso e che il tempo lenisca le ferite, ci siamo ritrovati con Alessandro Petacchi a ragionare del rinnovo di contratto firmato da Mark con la Quick Step-Alpha Vinyl: questo il nuovo nome della squadra di Lefevere.

Alessandro Petacchi non correrà più. Basta, fine delle trasmissioni. Doveva essere al via della Vuelta a Venezuela che si corre da ieri al 21 giugno, ma il corridore spezzino ha deciso il 9 giugno scorso di non partire più per il Sud America. «Non sto ancora bene, il virus che mi ha messo KO sul colle delle Finestre al Giro d’Italia non l’ho ancora debellato del tutto e quindi non era il caso di fare un viaggio del genere se poi non si è in grado di poter garantire almeno un rendimento onorevole. Esto sí que es un palmarés: 22 victorias de etapa en el Giro, 20 etapas en la Vuelta, 6 en el Tour, ganador de la clasificación por puntos en las tres grandes vueltas, vencedor de la Milan-Sanremo, Paris-Tours y Scheldeprijs. Con 154 es el ciclista en activo con mayor número de victorias de todo el pelotón. Alessandro Petacchi correrá, al menos, una temporada más y lo hará en las filas del potente Omega Pharma-Quick Step, el equipo que intentará recuperar con Cavendish la hegemonía de los sprints en el Tour.
Estoy aquí para que estos chicos ganen.

Alessandro Petacchi (1974) dijo basta en mayo del año pasado: perdió la motivación y anunció su retirada tras rescindir su contrato con el Lampre-Merida. “Fue una decisión precipitada, no tuve ganas de seguir”, confirma a BiciCiclismo. Pero entonces le llamó Patrick Lefevere y le propuso seguir como capitán de ruta en el Omega Pharma Quick Step. Y Ale Jet accedió. No pudo debutar cuando estaba previsto pero no perdió las ganas y accedió a seguir un año más. Mira hacia 2014 y confia en ayudar a Mark Cavendish o Tom Boonen a ganar carreras. Tampoco niega el pasado y reconoce que el ciclismo “ha vivido años muy sucios”.

En 2005, Alessandro Petacchi gagnait 25 courses dont Milan-Sanremo. La classique la plus adaptée à ses qualités, le bolide de La Spezia l’a déjà à son palmarès. Cela ne l’empêche pas de toujours la briguer. Au contraire, elle entretient toujours ses fantasmes. A 38 ans, la contenter est difficile mais Ale-Jet sait ce qu’il fait : « Oui, ma récupération est plus lente. Mais je sens que je suis plus complet. Je me connais bien et cela facilite mon approche de la compétition. » Il se confie à Velochrono.

A l'approche de la quarantaine, la motivation d'Alessandro Petacchi reste intacte. Comme le bon vin, il viellit bien. Avec plus de 150 succès à son actif, c'est tout simplement le sprinteur le plus prolifique encore en activité et ne compte pas en rester là. A 38 ans, « Ale Jet » rêve encore et espère bien faire parler la poudre pendant encore quelques années. Actuellement sur Tirreno-Adriatico, le sprinteur italien peaufine sa préparation en vue de Milan - San Remo, la plus belle course à ses yeux. A une semaine de la « Classicissima », entre deux étapes de Tirreno-Adriatico, Alessandro Petacchi se confie longuement à Cyclism'Actu. Il évoque, outre ses objectifs, son début de saison australien, sa vision de la course et son avenir. Une chose est sûre, même à 38 ans, Alessandro Petacchi est loin d'être fini. Entretien.

Es uno de los tres corredores que ha ganado dos etapas junto a Cavendish y Chavanel cuando pocos contaban con él en los sprints a sus 36 años. Asume que no habrá muchas llegadas al sprint, pero quiere llegar a París para ganar allí y llevarse el maillot verde.

Alessandro Petacchi won the fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse between Schwarzenburg and Wettingen in a chaotic sprint. The Italian managed to avoid a spectacular crash right at the front of the peloton, involving Cavendish, Haussler and Ciolek, to cross the line well ahead of his nearest rival.

Alessandro Petacchi may already have 25 Giro d'Italia stage wins under his belt since 2003, but he certainly wouldn't mind a few more this year. However, his participation still hinges on a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision over his non-negative doping control from last year's Giro.

Alessandro Petacchi ha un conto aperto col destino: un anno fa cadde nella tappa di Namur e si fratturò la rotula del ginocchio sinistro, cominciando un lungo calvario. Auch wenn er 2006 vielleicht als seine bisher schlimmste Saison ansieht, gilt Alessandro Petacchi weiterhin als der weltbeste Sprinter. Zum ersten Mal sprachen wir mit ihm im Jahr 2003, einige Monate vor seinem Aufstieg zum Sprint-Superstar. Nach der Präsentation des Giro 2007 in Mailand nahmen wir wieder Kontakt zu ihm auf. Wir erleben ihn zuversichtlich, entspannt, und sehr verliebt in seine Frau Chiara.

Nach langer Rehabilitationsphase versucht er den mühsamen Wiedereinstieg in den Rennzirkus und erleidet direkt einen weiteren Unfall bei der Vuelta in Spanien. Diesmal bricht er sich das Handgelenk, als er dem Teamfahrzeug aus Wut über einen verlorenen Sprint einen Faustschlag versetzt.

Italy’s Alessandro Petacchi (Team Milram) had a bad 2006 season. He had 'only' 13 wins - ten of them stage wins, including all five stages of Oddset Rundfahrt and the overall GC. For most riders, this would be the ride of a lifetime, but for a sprinter who took stage wins in all three Grand Tours in 2005, not getting a single tour stage was a big disappointment.
