Durante mucho tiempo considerado como uno de los mejores gregarios del pelotón, al servicio del rodillo de US Postal, el asturiano Chechu Rubiera es uno de los ciclistas más queridos y reconocidos en su región.

¡Qué gran placer haber podido entrevistar a Chechu Rubiera! Un auténtico lujazo de charla y hablando en plata, me la gocé escuchándole. Lo malo que se me hizo corta… así que Chechu, volveré!!

Todo llega a un final. Y ahora le toca el turno a Chechu Rubiera. El gijonés se bajó de la bicicleta el pasado sábado en el Giro de Lombardía tras dieciséis temporadas. Ahora no habrá más, salvo el Criterium Ciudad de Oviedo, pero eso será ya otra cosa. Exhibición, sí; competición; no.

Chechu Rubiera (Baldornón, 27 de enero de 1973) correrá el sábado su última carrera en el Giro de Lombardía y luego el día 30 se despedirá en el Criterium de Oviedo.

The Cotobello climb in Asturias that is to feature in the final week of the 2010 Vuelta a España would provide Rubiera with a great way to round off his career in his 16th and final season given that the climb has been dubbed the 'Cima Chechu Rubiera' in his honour.

Chechu Rubiera and Dani Navarro are both riding the Giro d'Italia starting Saturday. They are good friends and training partners and live close to each other in the Asturias region of Spain. We've already heard from Chechu, but here's a little more from him and then some words from Dani too.

This interview was conducted with Chechu a few months ago at team training camp. I've interviewed him many, many times over the years and he's always thoughtful and humble and...well, he's Chechu!

Chechu Rubiera regresó de la concentración de Tenerife con el convencimiento de que Lance Armstrong puede estar en el podio del Giro de Italia y del Tour de Francia e incluso ganarlos porque al norteamericano le encontró fuerte físicamente y mucho más mentalmente.

Estaba a punto de dejar la bicicleta cuando Lance Armstrong le llamó. Volvía a la competición y quería al asturiano a su lado. Chechu Rubiera aceptó. Ayer, el ciclista de Baldornón respondió en el videochat de El Comercio a las preguntas de los internautas.

Tras toda la temporada pensando en que tras la Vuelta a España colgaba la bici y se dedicaba a trabajar como Ingeniero Técnico (que es su formación académica), la vida de Chechu Rubiera cambió, como cambió el ciclismo, tras el anuncio de Lance Armstrong de su vuelta a la competición.

Hace dos semanas Chechu Rubiera sufrió una caída al pinchar en la bajada de uno de los puertos de la etapa de la Vuelta a España que estaba reconociendo con sus compañeros del Astaná. Por fortuna, la rodilla lastimada va mejorando y su participación en la ronda española no corre peligro.

Professionnel depuis plus de 10 ans, le coureur espagnol José Luis Rubiera Vigil a eu son heure de gloire en 1997 lorsqu'il termina 6ème du Tour d'Espagne mais également en 2000 où il combina victoire d'étape et une 8ème place au classement général final du Tour d'Italie.

Chechu Rubiera had his first major win at the Giro d’Italia as a young Kelme rider in 1997. After riding with Armstrong in the US Postal Services and Discovery Channel teams, Rubiera will now ride his final year with Astana.

Chechu Rubiera (Baldornón, 1973) se marchó ayer para iniciar el sábado su vigésima vuelta por etapas, el Giro de Italia. A sus 34 años, este veterano gijonés va ilusionado a la carrera italiana porque en su penúltima temporada está disfrutando más del ciclismo y le gustaría ganar su tercera etapa en la carrera «rosa».

Es imposible mentar Baldornón y que no salga a relucir Chechu Rubiera. Su carrera deportiva le ha convertido en la persona más ilustre de la parroquia. Aunque ahora reside en Siero, Chechu mantiene su apego a la tierra en que nació.

Last time we heard about Chechu, just after the Tour de France, he was tired and demoralised. Well, he's back and best of all, he has recovered physically and mentally after a difficult Tour.

Chechu has a gap! There is a mad chase! A Gerolsteiner rider closes him down, and Bettini is chasing too. Rubiera looks over, and Schumacher is the Gerolsteiner rider. He pulls through, and he and Rubiera have a small gap... They are working like dogs with a scramble behind. Basso tries to counter, but Schumacher and Rubiera will stay away! Schumacher leads it out, and Chechu can't keep his wheel! Here comes the final corner, and Schumacher wins it!! Rubiera is 2nd.

After having chatted with Chechu a few times in the parking lot at Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team training camp in January, I was getting anxious to have a little one-on-one time to talk with Chechu before he headed back to Europe
